A Room with a View
Premiering in San Diego - March, 2012

Based on the beloved romantic comedy of manners by E.M.Forster, this musical adaptation of A Room with a View teams me with Jeffrey Stock, composer of the effervescent Broadway musical Triumph of Love. Conceived in the lushly lyrical and gently comic tradition of A Little Night Music, our version of A Room with a View received a developmental lab at Running Deer Ranch in March of 2011 that generated commercial interest for a Broadway mounting in 2014.

Bastard Jones
The book that rocked the 18th century.
A musical to rock the 21st.

Based on the scandalous 18th century sex comedy by Henry Fielding, Bastard Jones tells the rollicking adventures of the baseborn Tom Jones, a himbo with a heart of gold. Composer Amy Engelhardt of "band without instruments" The Bobs and I have united the highbrow with the lowbrow in a style we like to call "the unibrow." You can listen and read it here.

Mad Scientists

Truth is stranger than fiction in this rock re-telling of how Thomas Edison tried to destroy Nikola Tesla in the high-stakes race to electrify the world. A band of six actor/rock musicians perform this dark comedy of ruthless ambition and personality-disordered brilliance. I'm writing it with composer James Beaton, pianist for the indie band Everclear and rocker Storm Large, and lyricist Christine McKinley, Drammy award-winning singer-songrwriter and real-life engineer featured on the History Channel's Decoded.

Demo coming soon, but in the meantime you can watch the video for an anthem James wrote with Storm in which I sing back-up tenor obligato in a strip club. Perhaps my proudest achievment.

Plays

Birds of a Feather
This comedy tells the true story of the gay penguins who tried to hatch a rock in the Central Park Zoo, the pair of hawks who threw bones and gristle out off a Fifth Avenue co-op, and the birdbrained human behavior they all inspired. Birds of a Feather was workshopped at Portland Center Stage's JAW Playwright's Festival and had its world premiere in July, 2011 at the Hub Theatre in Fairfax, Virginia, one of the counties that protested And Tango Makes Three, the children's book about the penguins that is one of the most banned books in the U.S.

Goofy, but serious…an allusive, wisecracking comedy…a smart and sometimes affecting meditation on relationships (gay and straight), conformism and the construction of public identity." - Read the rave review from the Washington Post

Tulip Mania
Greed. Lust. Ambition. Flowers.

Based on the Dutch tulip craze of 1637, the world's first recorded economic bubble, this raucous farce examines the conditions that led inebriated Dutchmen to lose fortunes speculating on flowers. Combined with a present-day story about the ruthless fine art market, this five-actor, one-set comedy puts elements of Tom Stoppard, David Mamet and Joe Orton in a blender and hits frappe.

Holidazed

As tabulated during its two sold-out runs at Artists Repertory Theatre in Portland, Oregon, Holidazed is a 90 minute holiday comedy with over 180 laugh (and a couple of good cries). This twisted alternative to The Christmas Carol concerns a stressed suburban mom whose life gets turned upside-down when she takes in a pagan street kid for the holidays. Co-written with award-winning screenwriter C.S. Whitcomb, Holidazed upends the holiday genre while embracing the warmth of family, friends and fellowship.
